PITTSBURGH, July 8, 2022 – A partnership between Guardian Protection and MLB team The Pittsburgh Pirates , has created unique opportunities for employees of Guardian and its parent company Armstrong Group , as well as Pirates fans. Guardian sponsored the giveaway of 20,000 Bill Mazeroski bobbleheads at the July 5 Yankees versus Pirates game at PNC Park, which was attended by more than 500 Armstrong Group employees and their families who benefitted from the company’s free ticket opportunity.   Mazeroski, who is best known for hitting the game-winning ninth-inning run that clinched the 1960 World Series championship for the Pirates, was present for the special tribute. A handful of lucky employees were on the field pre-game: one caught the first ball thrown by Mazeroski, and another registered an honorary first pitch. The night was capped with a Pirates win in a sold-out park.     Earlier in the day, accompanied by the Pirates Parrot mascot, Mazeroski mad...

How To Build a Modern Smart Home

Building a new home can be exciting.  With rising costs, at times it can be stressful to think about all the design, choices and budget considerations. For many, it can be easy to overlook smart home technology infrastructure while making important decisions about elements like home layout, bathrooms and kitchen design. Why are connected homes not an automatic element to new home builds?  The easy answer is that the building industry is catching up to technology infrastructure for modern day home builds.  As connected homes or smart homes are a newer category ( electrical and plumbing infrastructure have been in place for about 100 years)  Indoor plumbing began in the mid 1800s but it wasn't until the 1930s that plumbing codes were created to support public heatlh and prevent outbreaks of diseases related to poor plumbing or lack of infrastructure in homes.  Around this time indoor plumbing became more common in homes and not just an item for the wealthy. Successful Smart Kitchen & Bath Design Approaches

Image
In 2021 alone the world spent 600 Billion in home improvements.  Much of that spend resulted in new kitchens and baths.  Clients, builders, remodelers, interior designers and other key trades are asking - how do we modernize these spaces with technology?  How do we bring the elements of a smart home to life within these projects? All design starts with understanding the client and how the space and technology can serve them best.  Technology design is no different.  Matter of fact, it is really important not to stuff technology into a space for the sake of doing so - smart home technology needs to serve purpose, be well designed and accessible. That's when the magic happens.  That's when technology works consistently. That's when it is awesome.   We find that many people are overhwhelmed by the many products and capabilities out there.  Where to start? What to buy? What to wire for? (hint, most technology really isn't "wireless")  Ou...

DST 2022: Is Your Home Prepared for Daylight Saving Time?

Image
Believe it or not, it’s time to “Spring Forward” again. For most of the U.S., Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday in March. The clocks spring forward one hour at 2 a.m. and suddenly, 1:59 a.m. turns to 3:00 a.m., like magic (or something like that…) If you’re reading this, you’re probably used to adjusting to these changes twice a year. Ready for some fun facts about Daylight Saving Time? A study shows that SAT scores dipped 2% when the tests were administered the day after a DST clock change. Benjamin Franklin half-jokingly proposed Daylight Saving Time in 1784 when he wrote that Paris could save $200 million in candles (of today’s dollars) if they adopted a time change in a witty essay, “ An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light. ” The DST format as we know it was originally proposed in 1895 by a New Zealand entomologist — or someone who studies insects — named George Hudson. He suggested a two-hour time change because he wanted more daylight...
